Has over twenty years clinical experience providing support to young people, individuals and families recovering from mental health challenges. Professional practice includes five years as a mental health clinician within the WA State Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, a Division of the West Australian State Country Health Service, a contractual arrangement with Bunbury Regional Headspace and as Acting Clinical Lead / Mental Health Clinician through GP Down South Mental Health Service, along with significant overseas experience.
Establishing Busselton Child Youth & Family Counseling Service in April 2014, Martin continues to work closely with local doctors, managing Medicare Better Access in Mental Health Health referrals with efficient follow up in discussing and scheduling appointments. Medicare Telehealth appointments are provided to people living within the Bunbury, Donnybrook, Manjimup, and Augusta districts, and all rural and remote regions within WA.
Home visits for seniors and where mobility is an issue, along with school based appointments available upon request.
As an Accredited Clinical Mental Health Social Worker, Martin holds Membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers and College of Social Work, The Australian Association of Cognitive Behavioural Therapists, The Australian Association of Solution Focused Brief Therapy, The Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers and Registration with the New Zealand Social Workers Registration Board.
You can expect a professional person centered, comprehensive developmental assessment completed to formulate a shared understanding of factors contributing to current mental health concerns. Treatment planning targets psychological, emotional, physical and spiritual health. Clinical Hypnotherapy is offered alongside of other Medicare approved focused psychological strategies. Martin holds a long-standing interest in brief intervention treatment modalities, ideally suited to the Medicare model. He introduces a range of strategies and techniques promoting and supporting self-management of mental health. As a certified and practicing clinical hypnotherapist, Martin holds Membership of the Australian Academy of Hypnotherapy and The Australian Hypnotherapists Association. Clinical Hypnotherapy appointments are offered for pain management, smoking, weight loss, emotional self-regulation psychological, spiritual and physical well-being.
Born in New Zealand and living in the South West for the past eleven years, Martin enjoys membership of a number of organisations and sporting groups within the local community. A former motorcycle speedway rider, he retains active involvement in this sport as an official at Pinjar Park and the Perth Motorplex.
